Four Simple, Low-Prep Valentine’s Day Crafts for Kids
Use this free printable to create 4 easy Valentine’s Day crafts and low-prep, affordable art activities for your little ones to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a fun way! These simple projects work for a wide range of ages and skill level and are perfect for young children, older kids, or even the whole family.

Beat the Winter Blues With Crafts
In Ohio where we live, we are coming out of a long month of frigid, snowy January days and we are feeling it. The boys are itching to get back outside without having to bundle up in snow gear and I am ready to look out my windows without seeing piles of snow in every direction.
Even though there is still a little bit of time before the first glimpses of spring arrive, one way to beat the winter blues is by celebrating Valentine’s Day with those you love. For our family, I like to use Valentine’s Day as a time to remind my boys to show love to their friends and family members through their actions and words. It is also the perfect time to remember the greatest example of love that we have in Christ, who gave His life sacrificially for all.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
However you and your family choose to celebrate Valentine’s Day, it is important to show those that are most important to you how much you love and appreciate them. Simple valentines day crafts and handmade cards are a creative way to make the day meaningful without adding extra stress.
Time Well Wasted
I know how frustrating it can be to come up with a great day idea for toddlers, a classroom, or even a summer camp setting. You spend hours of time preparing only for them to spend 30 seconds on it before moving on to the next thing. As a school-based occupational therapist, I have to be creative and flexible in my sessions because there are days when I thought I had come up with a great idea or activity that my student had absolutely no interest in completing.
Because of this, I have learned to take objects, worksheets, printable templates, or games and adjust them to fit the unique needs and interests of each student, sometimes mid-OT session! This can be a challenge at times. And sometimes my adjustments haven’t turned out the way I thought they would. But as long as my students are participating and excited about the activity, I call that a win.
So, in classic OT-style, I have created a free Valentine’s Day printable for you to use in a collection of Valentine activities and easy projects that support creativity, engagement, and fine motor skills. I’ve provided 4 different activities that you could use this printable with, but feel free to adjust them or come up with your own!

Four Simple, Low-Prep Valentine’s Day Crafts for Kids
- Heart Pennant Banner
- Heart Scavenger Hunt
- Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin
- Valentine’s Day Cards

Heart Pennant Banner
Supplies needed
- Heart Printable (multiple copies)
- Crayons, markers, and/or colored pencils
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- String or yarn
- Laminator (optional)
This is such an easy and cute valentines day art project and fine motor activity for toddlers and preschoolers! You (or your kids) can color, cut, and hole punch each heart shape before stringing them onto the yarn or string for simple Valentine’s Day decorations or DIY décor in your home or classroom. With young children, coloring the heart and stringing them onto the yarn may be enough. For older kids, they may be able to complete the entire activity themselves.
To add an educational component, letters could be written on each heart and scrambled so your child or student could work on letter recognition or spelling skills. This is a fun valentine activity and an easy way to adapt the craft based on skill level.

Heart Scavenger Hunt
Supplies Needed:
- Heart Printable
- Colored paper or crayons/markers
- Scissors
- Laminator (optional)
This is a great activity that could be used in a small group, with older kids, or even adapted for uploading & non-users in classroom or therapy settings. It can also be done individually. Simply print 3-4 copies of our Heart Printable on different colored paper or color the hearts different colors. For additional durability, you can laminate the hearts, but that is not necessary.
Once they are colored and cut out, reserve one heart of each color to place in a “home” location such as a basket, bucket, or a designated place on the floor or table. Take the remaining hearts and hide them around your house or classroom. Then have them search for the hearts and return them to their “home” location. This creative way to play turns simple valentines day crafts into an engaging art activity with movement and problem-solving.

Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin
Supplies Needed:
- Heart Printable
- Laminator (optional)
- Sensory Bin base material (dried rice, beans, etc.)
- Felt hearts/cupids, etc.
- Pom poms
- Other Valentine’s themed small toys/objects (check your local dollar store or craft store)
- Kids’ tweezers, tongs, spoons, or shovels
This sensory bin activity is such a fun way to create hands-on valentines day crafts using items you already have. You can easily personalize it depending on what is available, making it a great option for classrooms, therapy sessions, or the whole family at home. You can include our Heart Printable as an easy addition to your Valentine’s Day sensory bin. Though it is not required, I would recommend laminating them if possible to increase their durability and to add another tactile component to the bin.
In my OT sessions, I will use sensory bins to target fine motor skills by having students retrieve objects using tweezers, tongs, or spoons. This addresses hand strength, coordination, and visual motor integration while still feeling like a fun Valentine rather than structured work.

Valentine’s Day Cards
Supplies Needed:
- Heart Printable
- Construction paper
- Crayons, markers, and/or colored pencils
- Scissors
- Glue
If you are like me, there is nothing more thoughtful and heartfelt from a child than a homemade card. Valentine cards and handmade Valentine’s Day gifts are a meaningful way for children to show love and appreciation. Using our Heart Printable, kids can color and cut out the hearts to decorate cards for their friends or family members.
Making cards is a creative way for kids to express themselves while engaging in art activities that support creativity and independence. Encourage them to use construction paper, draw designs, or add their own personal touches to make each card unique.
